Where is the Werakata National Park?

Werakata is situated to the north, east and south of Cessnock, in the Hunter Valley, NSW, Australia. The area was formerly made up of the Cessnock State Forest and the Aberdare State Forest. It is approximately 150kms north of Sydney.

From Sydney one would travel on the F3 Freeway and take the Cessnock turnoff.

From Newcastle one could travel west to Maitland on the New England Highway and then turn south to go through Kurri Kurri, or through Bishops Bridge via Rutherford and Farley. Alternatively one could turn along the John Renshaw Drive from East Maitland and traverse to Kurri Kurri and then towards Cessnock. Another route from Newcastle could entail a trip over Mt Sugarloaf along the George Booth Drive.

Werakata National Park is quite close to the vineyards of the Hunter Valley, in fact the Lovedale area forms part of the western boundary of the northern section of the Park.

Below is a map of the boundaries of the Werakata National Park.
